Shipping & Logistics
Our processing facilities are located on the West Coast of Newfoundland which is adjacent to the mainland of North America allowing faster, more frequent shipping, which is important for our fresh and live business, particularly, live lobster and blue mussels. We utilize efficient land and sea transportation systems to ensure that our seafood reaches our primary customers quickly and according to schedule. We have long standing business relationships with our freight forwarding partners who are experts in logistics and provide confidence that all shipments will arrive safely and on time.
Frozen seafood is loaded on refrigerated tractor trailers directly from our cold storage facility and transported across the Gulf of St. Lawrence via cargo ferry and trucked to various North American cities. Normal transit time is three days to the east coast (Boston-New York-Toronto) and eight days to West Coast (Los Angeles-Seattle-Vancouver). Using ocean container services from Halifax, Nova Scotia we can deliver frozen seafood to European ports in 20 days and to Asian ports in 35 days. The quality control system employed by the international shipping-carrier maintains the container storage temperature at -21°C or colder from loading to delivery. We follow the progress of every shipment using a track and recall procedure which is part of our HACCP quality assurance program.
Our company is familiar with the shipping regulations and import requirements of our international customers. We provide product certification including; Canadian Food Inspection Agency Certificates of Health, Origin and Hygiene and documents required for the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. We are also compliant with C-TPAT (Customs Trade Partnership Against Terrorism) which is a worldwide bio-security initiative to strengthen the goods and services supply chain.
